The Challenge – I’m Stuck in my World

May 15, 2014 By Erin Nicole Thompson Leave a Comment

Today’s post features guest contributor, Erin Thompson. I am blessed to serve alongside her in women’s ministry. If you would like to read more of Erin’s writing, visit her blog at erinnicolethompson.com. She provides Real Words to Renew, Refresh, and Re-envision Today’s Women.

Undaunted Supplemental Devo Image 24128751_ml purch 123rf.com, Dimensions 650 x 360Tears of conviction welled in my eyes reading words penned of a woman’s faith-filled pursuit to give hope to hopeless women over insurmountable odds.  My heart was overwhelmed with grief. How small my faith has been. How dominant I have let my obstacles get in my mind’s eyes. How big my world has become, and how little I have made the God of the universe.

Bottom line – I have been stuck in my own world. Have you been there too?

At the dinner table, I have sung the song many a time with my sons, “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do.” But when it has come to life recently, if I am honest with myself, I have been humming, “The obstacles are so big, so strong and so mighty there’s nothing my God can do.”

Woe is me, of little faith.

As I sat writing my convictions and revelation of the minuteness of my faith, our gracious and patient Father reminded my spirit of a verse.

Jesus said, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. (Matthew 17:20 NIV)

My hubby and I are trying to sell our house in a flooded market. We plan to move with less resources and more children than in our first home purchase.

But we can’t ignore the call anymore to be in the community God has called us to serve and care for.

We desire to bring hope to the hopeless through the promise of His truth and the example of God’s faithfulness to our church family.

Our heart’s longing is to see God bring the change of hope, light, and love in our dark and dreary world through the work He calls us to.

But the obstacles have seemed insurmountable and my faith inadequate. The verse in Matthew gives me hope that even with faith as small as a mustard seed, nothing is impossible for God.

Where there is darkness, He will bring light. Where there is destruction, He will rebuild. Where there is hopelessness, He will renew hope. Where something has been stolen, He is already staging a rescue. Where there is a lack of funding, He is the great provider. Where there is no way, He can clear a path. Where it looks impossible, He walks in possibility.

What challenge is God leading you to step into? What are you struggling to trust God with? What are you desperate for Him to do in and around you? What does your faith need to see you through?

Together, let’s believe in His power to accomplish what He has spoken to be. And with greater resolve let’s step forth trusting in God and proclaiming…

OUR GOD is So BIG. So STRONGand So MIGHTY.

THERE IS NOTHING.

OUR GOD. CANNOT. DO.
